The story behind the idea....
In 2007, Eric was sitting with friends in a Montreal brew pub when he fell in love with the idea of combining good craft beer and food while having a great time. It felt awesome being surrounded by wonderful company and he didn’t want this feeling to end.
While searching for companies that could help him bring his idea to Ottawa, he found Specialiste Acier Inoxydable (in Boisbriand, Québec) who designs and builds microbrewery/brew pub equipment. After several discussions with them and without any doubt, Eric purchased a brew kettle, mash tun and grant. Unfortunately in the midst of finalizing financing for the remaining equipment, a terrible personal tragedy took precedence that delayed the process and put the whole brewery idea on a hiatus. Add a career, life and mortgage to the mix and the equipment sat in his garage collecting dust, awaiting its true purpose of actually producing beer.
Fast forward to 2013, when Eric got tired of staring at empty brewing equipment every time he opened his garage. The idea needed to be reborn so he decided to lease a location for his emerging controls business with the intent of eventually using it for brewing.
Originally, the microbrewery was to be a one-person effort but this time around Eric needed a helping hand to get it up and running, so he approached his friends and colleagues and together they started the Broken Stick Brewing Company (BSBC).
The BSBC crew
Born and raised in Ottawa, he’s a computer technician by trade. This has led him to beer drinking due to repeated exposure to blue screens and angry clients.
When not making or drinking beer Steph enjoys playing ball hockey, biking, watching hockey (he’s a Sens fan so again feel free to send him nasty emails) and watching his beard grow. He also loves spending time with his daughter, girlfriend and step-son.

He’s also the one answering or ignoring your emails at email@example.com
Weizenbard is our special collaborator and an integral part of our research and development department. Rumour has it that his craft beer lab is adjacent to a laundry facility. We can't release his name as he's listed as a person of interest by the BEA (Beer Enforcement Agency). Weizenbard has been brewing for over a decade. His wife has a PhD in Chemistry which doesn't really help him but it's a fun fact all the same. Other than craft beer, he also loves hockey and is known to play ball hockey from time to time. His lab is known to produce some of the purest brews, with no preservatives or crappy shortcuts that most beer giants take. Process is everything, and only the finest ingredients are found in our beers thanks to Weizenbard.
You can’t reach Weizenbard, heck sometimes we can’t even reach him.
And finally... Back to Eric
Eric, an electrical engineer by trade, brings 10 years of industrial process automation experience and a good sense for all things mechanical. Those are fancy words for saying he fixes stuff and builds stuff for BSBC.
He excels in improving processes and efficiency using technology and common sense. He has an exceptional talent for taking complex technical concepts and simplifying them, unless he’s had a couple of beers which leads him to take simple technical concepts and making them complex.
When not making craft beer, Eric enjoys playing ball hockey, watching hockey (he’s a Habs fan so feel free to send nasty emails) and also runs a successful industrial controls business.
